Performance
The 2016 Kia Rio is powered by a 1.6-liter inline-four with Double Overhead Cams, 16 valves, Gasoline Direct Injection and Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing. This engine generates 138 horsepower at 6,300 RPM and 123 lb.-ft. of torque. A six-speed electronically controlled automatic overdrive transmission with Sportmatic® is standard although a six speed manual is available. The EPA-estimated fuel efficiency reaches 38 MPG on the highway, 27 MPG in the city through the 11.4-gallon fuel tank. Four-wheel disc brakes with an Antilock Braking System provide for solid stops while a firm ride comes from Macpherson struts and gas shock absorbers. To enhance performance, the SX adds sport-tuned suspension, which includes a thicker front sway bar and damper tuning.
Interior
Seat choices on the 2016 Kia Rio depend on the trim. The LX gets woven cloth, the EX includes premium knit cloth and the SX uses leather seating. For comfort on chilly days, the front seats include three settings of heat. Drivers can customize their seating positions in six different ways. To add additional cargo room, the rear seat folds in a 60/40 split. Adding luxury to the EX and SX are a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearshift knob as well as a soft-touch dash. Storage is available in the glove box, center console with sliding armrest, dual front cup holders and the map pockets with bottle holder in the front and rear doors.
Features
If you're looking for technology, the 2106 Kia Rio satisfies with an audio system that includes AM/FM radio, CD/MP3 player and SiriusXM® satellite radio. The LX gets four speakers while the EX and SX use six speakers, including a tweeter mounted on the A pillar. The UVO eServices Infotainment is standard on the SX and optional on the EX. With its seven-inch color touch-screen display, you can use your voice to make calls and control your music choices and connect with navigation and diagnostic features. Use Bluetooth® to wirelessly handle a compatible phone with control buttons mounted on the steering wheel. To wire other devices, a USB/auxiliary input jack is available. Air conditioning and a trip computer are standard on all trims.
Safety
The 2016 Kia Rio may be small and agile but it's big on safety systems starting with dual-front advanced and seat-mounted side airbags as well as full-length side curtain airbags. Steel beams reinforce each door while crumple zones in the front and rear help dissipate collision energy. For primary protection, all seating positions contain three-point seat belts while the front seats have belt pretensioners designed to tighten the belts during certain impacts to reduce the chances of injury. Electronic Stability Control keeps the vehicle in your intended direction of travel as Vehicle Stability Management adds further stability. For firmer stopping, Electronic Brake-Force Distribution distributes appropriate pressure to each wheel by relying on a network of sensors.
