2016 Kia Optima

Serving St. Petersburg, Tampa, and Largo

The Kia Optima is a family car with a ton of extras even in its standard package, making it one of the best four-door sedans for the money. You can get into this desirable car for just under $22,000 and that's an impressive price considering what you're buying. This is a gem of fine engineering and design, with a worldwide reputation for excellent both in looks and performance. Though it fills the role of family car with aplomb, there's enough sporty features to make it appealing to a younger set too.

This car got its start in 2000 as Kia's version of the Hyundai Sonata. The price and performance helped put the Optima on the map as a serious entry into the family car category. Size-wise, it competes with the Ford Fusion, Chevy Malibu and Toyota Camry. The car changed radically for the better in 2010 with a complete new design that made it far more competitive in the market. For 2016, the changes are more subtle.

Performance

The performance of the Optima is a good place to look at the changes. The three power-train options were created to meet the needs of the variety. The 2.4 Liter four-cylinder, the 2.0 turbo and a new 1.6 turbo charged four-cylinder engine suggest the Optima has changed its focus slightly toward fuel economy. The base 2.4 L engine fetched 35 mpg on the highway and 24 in the city with its 6 speed automatic transmission.

Interior

Standard packages in the Kia lineup are packed with features you'd find in an upmarket car. Cloth seats with eight seat adjustments is standard, and six way passenger seat adjustment is also standard. The rear seat folds down on a 60-40 split with an armrest feature, expanding the trunk space considerably. The interior dimensions are slightly increased so there's a slight increase in room all around, increasing the head room to the leg room. The Optima feels quite comfortable inside. Quilted Napa leather seating is standard at the top trim level.

Features

It's a good thing the Kia's interior is big because it's packed with extras. The AM/FM/CD/MP3/Sirius XM Audio System is standard in every Optima. The Six speakers and Bluetooth Wireless Technology Hands-Free Connectivity are also standard features. Cruise control, Steering-Wheel-Mounted Audio, Hands-Free Phone and Cruise Control Buttons are standard. Standard equipment also includes Key-less entry, AC power windows and power door locks. Voice activated navigation is standard a the top two trim levels, and surround view monitor is standard in the SLX level. There's quite a list of features for the 2016 Kia Optima.

Safety

All safety features offered for the Optima come standard at all trim levels. The advanced system of airbags that include dual front seat and side airbags in Optima offer almost complete airbag protection all around the occupants in an accident. The deployment of front airbags is regulated by sensors that measure severity. The car offers ABS brakes, vehicle stability management, electronic stability control, tire pressure monitoring, child safety door locks and more.
