Powertrain Choices with Respectable Fuel Economy

The 2021 Kia K5 comes standard with a 1.4-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that delivers 180 horsepower. Buyers who choose the top-of-the-line GT get a turbocharged 2.5L four-cylinder with 290 horsepower. The standard engine delivers 195 lb-ft of torque, while the GT has 311 lb-ft of torque.

Each model comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission, with the GT having an upgraded eight-speed dual-clutch with steering-wheel paddle shifters. The LX model has a slightly smaller gas tank and gets an EPA-estimated fuel efficiency of 29/38 MPG. The other models, excluding the GT, deliver 27/35 or 25/33 MPG depending on whether they have front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The LXS AWD and the GT-Line AWD come with AWD, while all other models have front-wheel drive.

Aggressive and Sporty Styling

Buyers will immediately notice the aggressive and sporty new styling. When comparing the K5 to its predecessor, there is no denying that the wider and lower K5 looks like it gets down the road with speed and style. The sloping front end features multi-reflector LED headlights and a grille in Hyper Silver. The LX and LXS FWD come with 16-inch alloy wheels, while the LXS AWD and EX models have 18-inch wheels. The sporty GT-Line trims have 18-inch Gloss Black wheels, and the GT has 19-inch wheels.

On the inside, the 2022 Kia K5 specs give drivers 105.3 cubic feet of passenger space with 16.0 cubic feet of trunk space. Without the panoramic sunroof, the headroom in the front seats is 40.2 inches. With the panoramic sunroof in the GT-Line, EX, and GT, drivers get 38.4 inches of headroom space.

The LX and LXS trims come standard with cloth seats, while the GT-Line trims have a mix of cloth and Syntex seating materials. The EX and GT have only Syntex, while the GT has sport seats to enhance the extra horsepower, torque, and sport-tuned steering. All models, except the LX, have a 60/40 folding rear seat for added cargo space.

Heated front seats come standard on the GT, EX, and GT-Line AWD, while a heated steering wheel is optional on those trims. The EX has standard ventilated front seats, too.

Placing a Priority on Safety

Kia loaded all trims with several driver-assist features. All models come with Lane Keep Assist, Lane Follow Assist, Forward Collision-Avoidance, and Driver Attention Warning with Leading Vehicle Departure Alert. They all have a rear-view monitor and high-beams assist.

All models except the LX come with Blind-Spot Collision Assist - Rear and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Alert.

The upgraded trims have several optional driver-assist features like Parking Distance Warning, a Surround View Monitor camera system, Highway Driving Assist, and Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control, which is Kia’s version of adaptive cruise control.

Loaded with Necessary Infotainment Features

When it comes to tech features, Kia continues its tradition of adding more than expected. The LX and LXS models all come with an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The upgraded models have a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with SiriusXM and navigation. They all come with a six-speaker sound system with an available 12-speaker Bose Premium audio system available on the top two trims. Several models come with a wireless charging system and all trims come with a few USB ports.
